About a year and a half ago I was in desperate need of a new computer so bought myself a Dell Inspiron 5150. I am going to be honest I didn’t look around much, because a friend had recommended Dell to me and spoke very highly of their customer service. So when it came time for to order one I looked at the Dell website only. I found the laptop I wanted and began to upgrade it online and continued to check out. This is where I ran into my first of a series of problems with Dell. For some reason the website would not let me check out and was giving me too many problems. Anyway I ended up calling Dell and after spending about two hours with speaking to an Indian whom I barely understood I finally got my PC ordered.
A day or two later I got a Yahoo! DSL starter Kit and a bill for new DSL service. I came to find out that the lady I ordered my pc from decided to sign me up for a year contract with SBC and also add a $60 power surge to my order, obviously without my consent. Once again I found myself on the phone with people I could barely understand. I spent at least two hours on the phone trying to get things straitened out. No one could help me, but I was able to get the lady’s voice mailbox number and left her many messages about my dilemma. I have yet to receive a call back.
The next day I spent another two hours on the phone and finally got things fixed but not before I was treated rudely and hung up on. After this I though, screw Dell; but I really wanted my laptop so I waited for it to arrive, even after my dad told me to cancel my order and choose a different company. I had my computer for about six months and things started to go bad and quick. My PC was running too slow. It was running on a Pentium IV 3.06GHz with HT technology. I felt that it should run a little faster than friend’s laptops that were bought for less and were older models. Well mine didn’t and it made me mad. Then one day I turned my computer on and my screen would not turn on. Thank God my one year warranty had yet to run out and Dell had no choice but to fix it. I got it back but soon with the same heating issues that were causing it to slow down.
This continued for a long time, but I tried to ignore it, thinking maybe I am just too picky. I would read online about people who owned an Inspiron 5150 and were also facing the same issues and some even having to replace motherboards multiple times. Well I never though this would happen to me and sure enough last month it happened. I called Dell and like always they weren’t at all helpful. I called many times and finally after begging the tech guy to fix my computer for over four hours he made a deal with me. He said they would fix it for free only if they decide it was not a problem caused by me. Ok buddy, just take a look online and find out how shitty the 5150 came out to be. My laptop was picked up on Monday and hopefully they can fix it for me until the next time the motherboard crashes. If Dell does not fix it than I will join the class action law suit and Dell will never hear the end of me.
