In the midst of sky rocketing gas prices, the war in Iraq continuing without any real opposition and congress still believing a wall will keep people from immigrating to this country I see a glimpse of hope in our future. There are many revolutions that in fact are not being televised but are sure as hell being fought. I will focus on one today and that is the operating system revolution. If you haven’t heard of Linux I will try to briefly explain it.

Basically it is an operating system like Windows or Mac OS, but free. Anyone can download it and install it on a PC or Mac. Better yet if you are that code savvy you can even download the source code, edit it and release it to others. I have used it and I really enjoyed it. There is so much software that you can use on it ranging from photo editing to word processing. The best part is that it’s all free. My favorite distribution has been ELive because of its polished look. A friend also recently recommended Ubuntu to me I guess it’s also really good and user friendly. Each one has a live cd which means it will boot from the cd and you can try it out with out installing it on your computer. All you have to do is burn the ISO to a cd.

Axel Chacon on Immigration

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

For a while I wasn’t exactly sure how I felt about the whole immigration issue. I have always felt that some form of immigration should be allowed. As long as there is a demand for workers in the United States and there are starving people in the world no law or policy will be able to even slow immigration down. Call it illegal, but remember there was nothing more illegal than what western European descendants have done to Native Americans. The immigrants these days aren’t taking Anglo children from their families and brainwashing them to think their culture is inferior as was one of the many terrible things that was done to Indians. You know your history and now you want to bitch like you got this land fair and square. I have come to the realization that I don’t care what the media says, what ignorant Anglos say or for that matter what congress does, because really they won’t slow anything down. I am just going to live my life as a legal immigrant loving this country for the diverse people who make it up and all the freedoms and opportunities it has facilitated me.
