Seven Days in TN

Monday, July 31st, 2006

About three summers ago I went to visit my friends in Murfreesboro, TN. I was there one week, but it felt like a life time. I left with new friends and many great memories. I had my camera so I was able to capture some of the fun. I came home and made a slide show. Many of you have probably already seen this little slide show but if you haven’t you should. Either way you should still watch it. It’s great.

Hope all is well.

Poetry

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

So I was working on my website when I came across the original layout. I really liked the old layout, it was simple, but maybe a little harder to maintain than this one. I think I may actually bring it back, but maybe more “blog” style. Also I have my poetry on the old site so check it out.

ICT, Kae Wun?

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Normally I wouldn’t “diss” on someone’s music despite how shitty or lacking of originality it was, but since I do live in Wichita I believe I can review the amazing hip-hop coming out of this town.

To begin, actually I am just going to talk about one rapper, Kae Wun. First the name Kae Wun sounds a lot like KRS-One or better yet Kay One, a German rapper, who is much better than the Wichita counterpart. Although I don’t really like the German’s music much or understand a word he is saying, it’s much more entertaining. Another question, why do you have to look pissed off and constipated on your album covers? Also what is the deal with everyone in this town claiming the air port code for Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. I mean really what if Snoop came out with am album called, “LAX (The Official Anthem)” or Jay-Z “JFK (The Official Anthem)?” What the fuck does that mean? Oh wait maybe Kanye will claim O’Hare soon, “ORD (The Official Anthem).” Atlanta is an exception, but at least the airport code somewhat makes sense. Either way it’s not an acronym or anything special it’s an airport code and it’s stupid. Oh and please don’t get me started on the chopped and screwed version of this ignorant music.

The honest truth is that it makes me sad when I see people in this town trying to put Wichita “hip-hop” on the map but are doing nothing original; especially when it all sounds like it was made with a toy karaoke machine. Make music that I can kick it to or that will make me want to dance, even when I am sober. Make music that will inspire someone to do something with their lives other than smoking, drinking or bullshiting their lives away worrying about their material status.

Hopefully in the future I will have better things to say about Wichita hip-hop. To everyone in this town who is really working hard to make exceptional music, thank you.

Brownshirts

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

I urge everyone to read this especially you war hawks. I have seen this country get screwed over by the Bush administration. I mean most people who voted for Bush voted against both the economic and the social issues that affected them the most. The night of 9/11, Bush gave a speech and I thought it blew. It honestly didn’t impress me at all. I remember going to school the next day and people saying “well you’re not patriotic enough!” From then on just because I disagreed with a president, who stole at least one election, made me unpatriotic. What I have learned is that the most patriotic people are those who treasure their civil rights and fight to keep them. It’s those people who are closely watching the government’s every move to keep it accountable to it’s citizens. These days it seems like the most patriotic ones are the leaders who send the less fortunate to fight on foreign lands but they themselves have never served.

I leave you with an essay written by Paul Craig Roberts who was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration. A Republican folks!

In The Reality Beneath the Flag-waving he states the following:

“Whoever put out that propagandistic slogan, “support the troops,” and the ribbon decals was a master propagandist. “Support the troops” means to deny the reality of the war and the behavior of the troops.”

“…Bush supporters are not true conservatives. They are brownshirts with the same low intelligence and morals as Hitler’s enthusiastic supporters. And they are just as resistant to facts.”

Now if that makes anyone mad remember I didn’t write that it was a Republican.

p.s. If you are at all open minded and you are truly patriotic you will at least read the article.

Summer is the sh*t

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

I know, I know, I haven’t updated in while, but I promise I haven’t been wasting time either. I’ve been really busy painting, working, entertaining some podcast ideas and best of all enjoying my summer with friends I rarely get to see.

Painting? Yeah, I painted a house with two of my friends and it took us a while but we made that house look much better. The night we finished we consumed a lot of alcohol (obviously we are of age and able to do so.)

There have been many issues in the news lately that continue to make me wonder if this administration is insane or completely stupid. I don’t really want to get into them today but if anything I would like to discuss the recent crime committed in Iraq by U.S. soldiers. I’m sure everyone knows about the U.S. soldiers charged with going into an Iraqi home and murdering the father, the mother, and the younger sibling of a 14 year old girl who was then raped by the soldiers. They also tried to burn the bodies to hide the evidence.

I want to support the troops but it is hard when you don’t believe in this war and it’s even harder when you hear about numerous murders committed by soldiers and now the killing of a family and raping of a young girl. This crime was then the motive for insurgents to kidnap two innocent soldiers and behead them; including Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, member of a Mexican immigrant family. Now I hear about a female soldier who was being sexually harassed by her superiors and no one wanted to do anything about it until she went AWOL and is now being arrested. I want to support the troops by not putting them in danger, and in places they don’t belong like Iraq. I do believe that one is innocent until proven guilty, but if in the end all this turns out to be true it will be really sad.

On nerd news: Rocketboom is back and has a new “interim” host Joanne Colan a former MTV Europe VJ. She is a beautiful Britt and I think she will be great, although I will miss seeing Amanda. Honestly I think she will be back to Rocketboom in some form or another.
