Never Again*

Monday, January 14th, 2008

*Except in Africa

After a race of people were nearly wiped off a continent the world said never again. Never again would this sort of inhumanity occur. Yet it has occurred in many different places in the years after WWII.

Bosnia
Guatemala
Iraq
Kashmire
Cambodia
Rwanda
Darfur Region (Sudan)
and many more…

The last one is particularly important because of how recent it is. It came and went in Darfur, now it’s spilling into Chad. I don’t understand with all the outrage of citizens across the globe the leaders have been so slow to move.

Not on our watch. Save Darfur.

McCain: “Make it 100!”

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Here is a video of presidential hopeful John McCain who is caught on video saying he would be fine if we stayed in Iraq for another 100 years. Which means he is fine with the continuing to drain resources from the American public and waste them on this war. Meanwhile college tuition continues to go up, 50 million people are left without health insurance, New Orleans is still in shambles and our school deteriorate. Fear Mongers! Just remember we got out of Vietnam and the reds never took over the world. The domino effect never occurred proving that war even more useless.

Iowa Caucus

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Tonight is the night that white, middle class America decides who they want for president. I don’t mean to be a pessimistic jerk. I am actually quite an optimist, but shit just takes over sometimes and one can lose hope. Fortunately for me I am supporting the candidate who personifies the “audacity of hope,” no pun intended. His name is Barack Obama. And although this message is somewhat chliche I’de rather hang of the balls of hope than the 9/11 mongering of Rudy Giuliani.

The Iowa Caucus is an amazing example of grassroots, community democracy. I love democracy and seeing it in action is even a greater pleasure. Yet, when I start to think about the elections in 2006 and the hope and belief I had in a new sweep of reforms and change for the better that eventually did not come, it really makes one mad. So I am not going to be like those people who refuse to get involved in politics because they feel nothing will change. I am though, going to be a person who is cautious, but also hopeful for a day when the candidates of the people will come ahead and not those that have been bought by corporations.

I support Barack Obama largely because of his ethnicity. As an immigrant and person not of European decent it is very appealing when someone that looks more like you may actually hold the highest office of this nation. I also think that Obama, although he has faults, is intelligent. That is something that is lacking in the current president. My second choice would be John Edwards. This man is running on a populist platform. I really like that he is anti-corporation in the sense that they have practically taken over the country under our noses.

In this Iowa Caucus I hope that the people of Iowa vote for the best candidate and not for the most electable. If you are like me and do not understand how this process works in Iowa watch this video.
